The Sotiria Museum is located within the premises of Sotiria General Hospital, an institution founded in 1902 by Sophia Schliemann as a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. It is housed in the Military Pavilion, one of the hospital’s historic buildings, and is dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis in Greece, the history of the hospital, and its transformation from a tuberculosis sanatorium into a pulmonary care institution. The project was implemented with funding from the Region of Attica (2014–2020 & 2021–2027) and was completed in February 2026.
The Sotiria Museum is the first medical museum in Greece designed according to contemporary museological and exhibition standards. It is based on a clear, human-centered narrative and a minimal, original exhibition design, aiming to be accessible and engaging to a broad audience. The exhibition combines archival material, objects, and testimonies to present different aspects of medical practice and hospital life. It also highlights the role of the institution within the broader history of public health in Greece.
