The residence of the architect Ernst Ziller, located on Mavromichali Street, was built between 1882 and 1885 based on his own designs and is a characteristic example of late Athenian neoclassicism. In the early 20th century, it came into the possession of the banker Dionysios Loverdos, who converted part of the house into an exhibition space for his personal collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons.
The museological and museographical study focuses on highlighting the history and architecture of the building, with respect for its form and distinctive features. At the same time, it emphasizes the personalities of Ernst Ziller and Dionysios Loverdos, as well as the interpretive presentation of the collection.
The permanent exhibition has been open to the public since 2021.
