Ancient Pleuron, built in a privileged location about 5 km from Messolonghi, is one of the most important fortified cities of Aetolia. Locals refer to it as the Castle of Lady Rene. Remains of defensive structures as well as elements of everyday life are preserved within the city, which flourished during the 2nd century BC and was abandoned in the late 1st century BC.From 2002 until 2015, the Archaeological Service carried out significant works to enhance the site and transform it into an organized archaeological destination open to visitors. Conservation, consolidation, and restoration works were also undertaken on the visible structural elements of the monuments. This film offers a journey through the history, myths, and architecture of Pleuron, presenting archival material, interviews, and footage of both the archaeological site and the surrounding natural landscape.
